We've arrived in South Africa

Well here we are in Somerset West on Friday 9th December, we had a good enough flight out here, but it is a long one,11 hours from Amsterdam. Still it passed quite pleasantly, one of the movies was "Cinderella Man" with Russell Crowe about a boxer in New York at the time of the depression, so that took care of a chunk of time.
We arrived in Cape Town airport at 11 30 pm and by the time we got through customs and immigration, picked up the car and got to Chamonix (our complex) it was almost 1 o clock in the morning but it is a very secure complex with gates that only open with the right electronic control key and guess what Paul remembered that we didn't have the entry key!!! Thank goodness for very good neighbours, who we had to ring and explain and they pressed their entry control and let us in! phew what a relief, then a lovely cup of tea and straight to bed.
On Friday we unpacked and shopped and had a few coffee stops in the Mall then in the late afternoon we went for a walk on the beach at Strand, it is a long expanse of sand surrounded by mountains and the sea, it is called Milk bay.
The mountains that are all around us are called The Helderburg
We went to The local Baptist church on Sunday morning and then in the afternoon to a musical concert in Stellenbosch by local children. This was in the town Hall which is very grand and the use of it was given free by the Mayor. Great concert it was too but to us it seemed very strange to see the children all dressed up in Santa outfits and singing "White Christmas" when outside it was 30 degrees in the shade!!
